Alanna Smith has been named the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced today. The award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.
Alanna Smith has been this week's Naismith Trophy National Player of the Week for her performances in the Cardinal's road sweep of UCLA and USC.
Does that explain why Smith is one of the most unique basketball talents in the NCAA, with a burgeoning international career? In a way … yes. Her remarkable individual stats as a 6-foot-4 senior forward are achieved with her Stanford teammates in mind.
