BIWER AND STEEL TO REPRESENT AUSTRALIA
NUNAWADING BASKETBALL | Nunawading Spectres South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) star Andrew Steel has been selected to represent Australia at the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup later this month in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia extending the recent run of Spectres players chosen to pull on the green & gold in international competition.
The Australian 3x3 team will also be guided by Nunawading Spectres Head Coach Dave Biwer and will feature Owen Odigie (Kilsyth), Lucas Barker (Dandenong) and Darcy Harding (Albury/Wodonga) to form an all SEABL team for the Asia Cup event.
“It’s exciting that SEABL, as one of our strongest domestic leagues, has athletes representing Australia in the Asia Cup,” said Jan Stirling, General Manager of High Performance.
“The skill set package of these athletes was a focus for the selection panel and they are well suited to the 3×3 game.”
“These players will provide the toughness, athleticism and explosiveness that is required to compete with the best 3×3 countries in the world while it is also a great opportunity for coaches Matt and David,” said General Manager of Competitions, Paul Maley.
The Asia Cup will be held from October 27-29 in Mongolia, with Australia to qualify against Turkmenistan and Malaysia before hopefully progressing to the main draw with nine pre-qualified teams.
FIBA will live-stream the tournament via their FIBA 3×3 YouTube channel.
