Friday: Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres @ Hobart Huskies

Hobart made it two wins in a row to start the season after an 87-75 win over Nunawading.

Centre Cayla George led the way for the Huskies with 27 points and 17 rebounds, while Ellie Collins shot 50 per cent from the court to end the game with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Huskies were dominant on offence, shooting 51 per cent from the court, while the Spectres could only manage 30 per cent.

Hobart led by one point at quarter time, before a 21-16 run in the second term gave them a six-point lead at the main break. Nunawading reduced the deficit to four points at three-quarter-time, before a 28-20 run in the final term secured the win for the home team.

Kathleen Scheer was gallant for the Spectres with 21 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks, while Eliza Chilcott had 17 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Saturday: Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres @ Launceston Tornadoes

The Launceston Tornadoes came out of the blocks firing but the Nunawading Spectres found their grove, and lead from the end of the first quarter to win 87-85.

The Tornadoes were never out of the match and the most they let the Spectres get out to was 12 points but they just couldn't quite get their nose in front.

Stella Beck pulled off an incredible steal with seconds remaining to get the ball back to their hoop and level the score but the referee called a foul and Nunawading got the W.

Despite the loss, Tornado Brittany Lee top scored with 29 points and six rebounds but Nunawading's field goal percentage of 54 percent to Launceston's 43 percent was the edge they needed to secure the victory.
