SPECTRES ADD STAR AMERICAN
NUNAWADING BASKETBALL | The Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres have set off their own New Years fireworks, announcing today that star American, Kathleen Scheer has signed with the club for the 2019 Elite League season.
No stranger to Australian basketball, Scheer has spent the last 6 years with the Hobart Chargers in the SEABL, plus two years in the WNBL with the Sydney Uni Flames and Adelaide Lightning.
“This is a game changer,” Nunawading Spectres Head Coach Paul Flynn said.
“At the end of each season you sit down and look to identify how you can make improvements - having Kath onboard goes a long way towards us taking another giant leap forward in 2019.”
“Kath is one of the premier players in our league, with genuine versatility and a winning attitude. She’s a tough match up for anyone in this league, we’re really excited to have her on our side now.”
Across a 134-game career for the Chargers, Scheer has returned impressive averages of 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists. A graduate of the illustrious Duke University and with international experience, the 6’2” Forward adds a lot more than just scoring power to the Spectres line-up.
“I’m so excited by the opportunity to play for Nunawading,” Scheer said from her base in New Haven, Missouri.
“After talking with Flynnie it just felt like the right fit. His vision and passion for the game is something I really admire.”
“Its always been tough going against Nunawading because of how strong their team culture is. Izzy (Chilcott) is a friend of mine and we’ve talked a lot about it. She has nothing but great things to say about her experience over the last couple of years. I wanted to be a part of that.”
“I can’t wait to meet all the girls and get started. It’s going to be a great year!”
Currently spending some rare time at home, Scheer is expected to join her new teammates in February, with the Spectres anticipating a March 29 start to the new Elite League season.
Scheer joins Melbourne Boomers young star Chelsea D’Angelo as the Spectres newest recruits set to team up with Izzy Chilcott and Rachel Antoniadou as Nunawading’s confirmed signings.
