Nunawading Basketball News

NUNAWADING BASKETBALL | The Nunawading ‘Burwood One’ Spectres have bolstered their frontcourt stocks with big man Jon Cooke returning to the line up for the 2018 South East Australian Basketball League season.

Cooke enters his fourth season with the Spectres senior men’s team, having progressed through the Nunawading Spectres Junior Program and Wattle Park Saints. With short stints in Ballarat and South West Metro (Queensland) along with 4-year career at Western State Colorado University, there is certainly no place like home for the big man.

"I'm really excited to play another season for my junior rep club,” Cooke said… “and the same club mum and dad played for, as well as a chance to have a crack at the title with a great group of guys."

"It's going to be another great season backing up Simon and Dain in the frontcourt, and hopefully giving Dave the flexibility to run some different looking lineups during the year."

Head Coach Dave Biwer affirming that desire to unleash a three-pronged attack in the paint this season.

“Cookie works harder than anyone. If we can translate what he’s doing on the practice court into game play then he’s going to play a pretty important role alongside Dain and Simon.”

“He’s so coachable, he’s mobile and he likes to do to the tough stuff you can’t just get guys to do, they have to want to do it. I’m looking forward to what that looks like this season.”

To date, the Spectres have announced a largely unchanged line-up to the one that fell agonisingly short to Mt. Gambier in last years East Conference Final, the only departure being Dyson King-Hawea (Diamond Valley). The Spectres frontline of Cooke, Conn and Swetalla will join Shane McDonald, Tom Wright, Costas Hronopoulos and Andrew Steel as the confirmed starters for the new look SEABL season.

Nunawading Basketball recently released membership packages, with the Spectres men on the road to the Melbourne Tigers in Round 1 before returning home the following weekend for a women’s/men’s double in Round 2 against the Diamond Valley Eagles. More information;
