MELBOURNE – The Nunawading Spectres have re-signed star import Dain Swetalla for the Coles Express NBL1 South 2022 season.
Swetalla returned 16. Points and 8.7 rebounds across 13-games for the Spectres in an interrupted 2021 season and will be looking to return Nunawading to post season action this year.
“Nunawading is a club and program of high standards, expectations and winning traditions,” Swetalla said.
“It has been well respected amongst the league long before I arrived here and as long as I’m a part of the club, I will fight and work to maintain its traditions and culture to see it go forward as such. Pressure is a privilege because it means someone expects something of you.
The Spectres will roll out in Round 1 following the Easter break with somewhat of a different line-up to that of years gone by, but that doesn’t seem to phase the 2019 NBL1 Finals MVP.
“We have a younger group than we’ve had in years and some of that savvy veteran leadership and style we’ve had in the past will be challenged.”
“But we have a strong foundation of coaches, returning and exciting new players who’ve been around the league for some time and know the game. What feels special this season is seeing the high achieving mentalities everywhere. Guys who know what it takes and or committed to do what’s necessary to win at a high level.”
“Personally, I still want to compete against the best competition possible every night and execute my game to the standard I’ve seen while maintaining more consistency in my production. I know my game better than ever right now and my commitment to my body is allowing it to still do the things I want to do while being smarter as a player”
Spectres Head Coach Andrew Cutler was keen to speak on the return of his frontcourt star, knowing that he will team well with the new and returning rostered players.
“We’re excited to re-sign Dain for another year.”
“Dain has been a valuable contributor to Nunawading for a number of seasons and we expect that will continue in 2022.”
Swetalla joins Jack Gandolfo, Costas Hronopoulos and Jordan Geer as confirmed signings for the Spectres ahead of the Coles Express NBL1 South season tip-off.
The Spectres open their 2022 campaign at home, Saturday 23 April against northern suburbs rivals Eltham.
