MELBOURNE – The Nunawading Spectres have named Andrew West as the new head coach of their Big V men’s program.

West takes the reins having served as an assistant coach to Andrew Cutler over the past three seasons, where the team has enjoyed great success, taking significant strides in the development of the Spectres’ emerging athletes.

A former Nunawading representative player at both junior and senior levels, West moved into the coaching ranks as head coach of the Spectres U21 VJBL team whilst still an active member of the Big V playing roster.

“This is a great opportunity the club has given me and with the recent success of the program and players, I am looking forward to the challenge ahead,” West said prior to the commencement of preseason preparations.

“Nunawading is home to me. I take great pride in wearing the Spectre logo so this is an opportunity I will cherish and make the most of.”

“I have been lucky enough to be a part of the amazing culture this senior program has developed over the years and I will aim to continue the success and progression of each player coming through the ranks.”

West’s appointment launches a new era in the Spectres men’s program alongside Cutler who now leads Nunawading’s NBL1 side.

“Andrew brings both knowledge and experience at Victorian Youth Championship level,” said Nunawading Basketball Operations Manager Paul Flynn.

“He has a proven track record of developing players and preparing them for the next level, whether that be moving into our NBL1 squad or heading over to play in the US collegiate system.”

“Having known and worked alongside Andrew in recent years, the senior committee are confident that he will continue to cultivate talent and provide great value to our program here at Nunawading.”

The Spectres will return to Big V competition in 2021 on the back of the Covid-19 pandemic forced hiatus. A confirmed starter in the Victorian Youth Championship division, Nunawading will open Round 1 (13-14 March) as the two-time defending champs.
