MELBOURNE – The Nunawading Spectres announced today that they have re-signed co-captain Izzy Wright.

Wright spent the covid-extended off-season with the Melbourne Boomers, playing an integral role off the bench, appearing in 15 games across the WNBL hub season with returns of 4.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per outing.

“I’m really happy to be back at Nunawading,” Wright said.

“It was a bit of a no brainer for me, I love playing for the club and for Flynnie.”

“I’m excited to see what we can do this season. We have a good core group that have been together for a few years now and I am really excited to playing alongside our new additions, Penina (Davidson) and Lou (Brown).”

Wright was huge for the Spectres last NBL1 season, averaging 11.0 points, 3.9 assists and a team high 9.3 rebounds before a knee injury sustained 13-games in sidelined her for the remainder of the season.

The dynamic guard, known for an ability to penetrate almost any defence also provides the Spectres with a potent perimeter game – shooting the ball at 44% from beyond the arc.

“No matter what challenge stands in front of us, we’re in a great position knowing we have Iz on our side,” Nunawading Spectres Head Coach Paul Flynn said.

“She provides us with great leadership, smarts, composure and versatility, she makes us better every time she pulls on a Spectres jersey whether that be for a game or at practice.”

Wright and her Spectres side showed some exciting signs across the NBL1 South Blitz played at Dandenong Stadium over the weekend and are sure to be ready to content when the regular season tips off April 17.
