The Nunawading Spectres are National Champions – with both U14 Girls & Boys teams claiming Gold in Sydney at the U14 Australian Club Championships.
Originally scheduled to be played at Casey Stadium in Victoria, the U14 Australian Club Championships moved to Sydney to coincide with the FIBA Women’s World Cup, seeing our Spectres team travel interstate for the first time this year.
The Nunawading girls were the first to bring the national championship home, recording a strong 56-37 win over North Queensland counterparts, the Mackay Meteorettes. The boys followed suit with a dominant performance, defeating the Rockhampton Rockets 88-51.
The Spectres become only the third program to claim a double national championship win in the same year, joining Melbourne (1988, 2010) and Dandenong (2003).
It caps off an impressive year which saw both sides undefeated on route to National Junior Classic Gold and Victorian Championship Gold.
The Spectres struck Gold twice more today to finish off their campaigns as National Champions.
