WELCOME BACK DAIN SWETALLA

The Nunawading Spectres have re-signed NBL1 Finals MVP Dain Swetalla, the star American and club agreeing to terms early in the New Year.

Swetalla played in 20 games for the Spectres last season, returning 17.2 points at 54%, 9.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per outing providing his team with an extraordinary level of versatility in their frontcourt rotation.

The big-man stepped up further in the post-season posting 27 points and 10 rebounds in his sides Preliminary Final victory over Ballarat, followed by an MVP performance – 28 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists on NBL1 Championship Day to guide his Spectres to a historic win over Bendigo.

The 6’9” forward remained in Melbourne following the Spectres championship success and was on hand to discuss he’s decision to stay with the team despite heavy interest from opposing NBL1 program.

“I’m proud and honoured to be a part of the Nunawading Spectres for the 2020 season. I’m looking forward to another opportunity to play for Coach Biwer and with the core group of guys as well as the impressive young talent climbing our ranks.”

Swetalla joins championship teammates Tom Wright and Costas Hronopoulos, along with new recruit Darcy Harding as confirmed signings for Nunawading ahead of the 2020 season. Spectres Head Coach Dave Biwer already running an extended squad through their paces in the pursuit of back-to-back titles.

“It’s exciting to be bringing Dain back into the team dynamic,” Biwer said.

“He studies the game and its intricacies more than anyone I know, and you can see the endeavour to constantly improve or add to his game. It’s another level of professionalism that’s great for us experience, especially our young players looking to crack senior ranks.”

“Dain was a solid performer last season, especially with players and staff coming in and out of the line-up fairly regularly. Dain was one of our constants and then took it up a notch when we needed it most.”

The NBL1 released its 2020 schedule last week, with NBL1 South teams set to play a 22-game regular season schedule. The Spectres will host 11-home game double headers (women / men) at The Graveyard, tipping off April 18 against Diamond Valley.
