The Nunawading Spectres have confirmed the re-signing of big man Simon Conn for the upcoming 2020 season.
The Spectres anchor will enter his 10番目 season for Nunawading, having previously represented both Sandringham and Dandenong at senior level. An NBL1 All Star Five member in 2019, Conn shores up the Spectres frontcourt, leading his team in points, rebounds and blocked shots last season.
“I am really excited to re-sign with Nunawading for my 10th season,” Conn said from his Melbourne base.
“With Macca (Shane McDonald) retiring the dynamic of the team will shift slightly but Dave (Biwer) and the front office have put together a great roster and I am ready to work towards defending our NBL1 Championship.”
Conn was instrumental in the Spectres championship run in 2019, playing in all 24-games, averaging 19.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per outing – the big fundamental showing no signs of slowing down his production despite featuring heavily on every opposition scouting report.
“It’s great heading into the season knowing we’ve got the big guy holding us up in the middle,” Spectres Head Coach Dave Biwer said.
“Most coaches spend the off-season searching for an import to return you Simon’s kind of numbers on a consistent basis, I’m lucky, I’ve never had to do that because he’s been here with me coming up a decade.”
“He’s come into pre-season in good shape and we’re working with a new-look backcourt to ensure we keep finding Sim in the right spots at the right time.”
Conn has already begun pre-season with his Spectres teammates, joining; Tom Wright, Costas Hronopoulos, Darcy Harding, Dain Swetalla and Luke Van Rijn as confirmed signings ahead of the NBL1 South season.
The NBL1 recently released its 2020 schedule, with NBL1 South teams set to play a 22-game regular season schedule. The Spectres will host 11-home game double headers (women / men) at The Graveyard, tipping off April 18 against Diamond Valley.
