GEBC Cup Set to Celebrate a Collaboration in Basketball Excellence

MELBOURNE, April 2, 2024 – The Nunawading Spectres (Melbourne East Basketball Association) and Ringwood Hawks (Ringwood Basketball Association) proudly announce the launch of the GEBC Cup, a testament to their collaborative effort in delivering premier basketball experiences for junior athletes across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

 

The GEBC Cup signifies the remarkable partnership between both Nunawading and Ringwood, showcasing the spirit of unity and excellence in basketball. Whilst both associations operate independently during the week, they join forces to deliver the Greater Eastern Basketball Conference (GEBC) on Saturday’s, seeing more than 5,000 junior athletes embrace the joy of weekly basketball competition.

 

“The GEBC embodies our shared commitment to fostering basketball talent and community engagement,” said MEBA President Paul Flynn. “The GEBC Cup serves as a platform to celebrate our collaboration and the dedication of our member clubs.”

 

Echoing Flynn’s sentiments, General Manager of Ringwood Basketball Ken Harrington expressed his enthusiasm for the launch of the GEBC Cup , stating, “This is a great chance to bring elite basketball to as many GEBC families as we can. After all, most NBL and NBL1 players basketball journey started in a domestic league like the GEBC.”

 

The excitement surrounding the launch of the GEBC Cup reaches its peak this Friday, 5 April as the Nunawading Spectres play host to the Ringwood Hawks in their NBL1 South home opener at The Graveyard. The women’s match tips off at 6:00pm, followed by the men’s game at 8:00pm. Basketball enthusiasts can secure their tickets online via INTIX online here.

 

Designed to be an annual event, the GEBC Cup will be fiercely contested between the two clubs with the winner determined by the most games won out of the 4 regular season match ups. In the event of a tie in games won, percentage will be utilized to declare the victor.
