MELBOURNE – Alice Kunek has agreed to a return to the Nunawading Spectres for the NBL1 South 2023 season, the club announced today.

Kunek returns to the Spectres having spent the Australian summer plying her trade in Hungary with European powerhouse Sopron Basket. Kunek helped guide her side to a Hungarian Cup Championship, Hungarian League Championship, and a Euroleague Quarter Final appearance, where Sopron eventually fell to a star studded Fenerbahce side.

At Nunawading, Kunek played 16-games for the Spectres across the 2022 NBL1 South season returning 20.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists, earning herself All-Star Five status. She adds an instant scoring punch to Nunawading’s lineup and tenacious defensive versatility, with an ability to play multiple positions on the floor.

“It’s great to be welcoming Alice back into the team,” Nunawading Spectres Head Coach Paul Flynn said. “It was always the plan to bring her back in post Europe, and I am thrilled we’ve been able to make that happen.”

“AK was such a pivotal part of our team last season, and the way in which she immersed herself within the club culture, was invaluable. Her leadership on and off the floor, and her willingness to share her experiences with our emerging talent will benefit our program for years to come.”

Kunek joins the Spectres (4-4) ahead of their Round 6 road clash against the Casey Cavaliers.
